Pointless Glass Of Milk. asked:
I want a pet turtle but i need it to stay small. is it possible for a turtle small enough to live happily in a 10 gallon tank? thanks!
NO RUDE COMMENTS!

uhm its pretty much not gunna be tht small a good pet is probably the red eared slider mine is about the size of my hand and will get about 9 inches or more long and 6 inches wide
I’m sorry, but there are no turtles that would be happy all their lives in a 10 gallon tank. Even the smallest common turtles, the mud and musk species, would like a 40 gallon tank minimum, a 75 would be better.
I think you should try for a little bigger tank size as most turtles need more room, I have an ornate box turtle in a 20 gallon but I leave it out to roam around in my computer room and take it outside some during the week on and off. they do stay smaller than alot off turtles but they still need room. check out Austin’s Turtle Page as it can give you better infor. on different types of turtles.
There is not turtle that will do well as an adult in a ten gallon tank. That is fine for babies of some species, but once they get over two inches, they will need a bigger tank.
Cagle’s map turtles (Graptemys caglei) only get to around four inches in shell length. A forty gallon (breeder) tank would be good for one or two Cagle’s map turtles. That is the smallest turtle that is relatively common in captivity.
