s’justme… asked:
What can i feed my pet box turtles? I know tomatoes, and other vegetables, but what else? Provide a website if possible!
thanks!!

North American box turtles are omnivores. Their sharp eyes and keen sense of smell help them in finding food such as snails, insects, berries, fungi, slugs, worms, roots, flowers, fish, frogs, salamanders, various rodents, snakes, birds, and eggs. During their first five to six years, the young are primarily carnivorous while they grow. Adults tend to be mostly herbivorous, but they do not eat green leaves. Box turtles have been known to eat road-kill. Babies and young turtles need more protein and prefer a carnivorous diet, and then include more and more plant matter as they get older. well i dont know much about turtles. im more of a snake person but i know that bow turtles will love to eat worms. my friend had one and it went crazy for worms. hope i helped!!
their diets should be half meats and half fruits and veggies, feed them worms, slugs, fruits, veggies, collard greens, go to yahoo and type in box turtle care sheet.
Here is a wonderful Box Turtle Care Sheet from the California Turtle and Tortoise Care Society.
Hope it helps you as much as it helped us. Search to see if there is a similar club in your area, they are a wealth of information and just a wonderful group!
heres a good website the eating diet is for box turtles you just have to look at the bottom of the page.
FYI a tomatoe is a fruit not a vegetable. also, box turtles are attracted to brightly colored fruit, and have an incredible good sense of smell so if hide a fruit some where; for sure you’ll get a turtle. lol.
i have 4 turtles. 2 box turtles for 5 years, and 2 red ear slider for 4 months.
