What kind are those small turtles that they sell at the beach?

turtles
Devin asked:

Whenever I go on vacation I see in gift shops along with hermit crabs they sell tiny turtles maybe about 3 inches or so total in length that swim in water but also like land? What are those called?

Usually red eared sliders… not only do they reach about a foot, they live to be at least 35 years old if you take care of them properly, and a proper setup for one will cost about $200 regardless of what the people who sell it to you say… (think puppy mills, but for turtles…)

Usually it’s a red-eared slider. They do get bigger and they cost a lot to fully set up and take proper care of.

I know MO has banned selling of turtles under 4 inches in size (except for educational purposes). I really wish more states would do this.
