What is my best option to work with sea turtles?

turtles
Villy asked:

I have an obsession with sea turtles. I would LOVE to work with them. But, I’m not entirely sure I’m cut out for whatever courses I would need to take, and I would like to do more research on appropriate degree programs.

I know “sea turtles” is really limiting. If I do decide to pursue this, I will probably study something like zoology as well.

Is Marine Biology my best option?

There are very few undergraduate programs in marine biology. Most people who want to do that will major in something like zoology or wildlife biology, then try to find internships or volunteer positions with sea turtles. Then you can go on to get a graduate degree in marine biology.

Learn as much as you can about sea turtles and all of the issues concerning them. Then, when you apply for internships, they’ll see that you are passionate about it.

The University of Florida used to be the premier place for working with sea turtles back in the days of Archie Carr. As an undergrad, you could major in Zoology or Marine Biology and then go on to specialize in grad school.
