Pet Turtles that stay small?

I am looking for a pet turtle that will stay small and is somewhat easy to take care of…..

Do you know of any?

I thought there were some spotted ones but i cant remember the name of them..

Yes i am aware that they are linked to salmonella… but any advice would be great

    NOooooo i thought they stayed small i didnt research them before I went to flea market .Kids talked me into buying them.Ours over yr period got HUGE!!!We put him in aquarium and then had to let him do in pond…(red sliders do well if hand fed and then let go)
    They quit selling them in january (in fla)so if you want a couple id get them now..I told the kids i would go buy some…
    they are red sliders.

    Mud and Musk turtles stay pretty small, about 3-5 inches. They still need a large tank, water heater, water filter, frequent water changes, basking spot, heat lamp, reptile UVB bulb, a varied diet. Care info here:

    you could go on the internet learn what you can then if yu get a name for that turtle thoen look et some pet stores and ask for more info on them. other than that i can’t help you, sorry. good luck finding your turtle though. :(

    If you keep the turtle in a small tank for as long as possible it should stay small to fit the tank but as soon as it gets too big pleasz get it a new tank

    I agree with Kimbee, mud or musk turtles are the way to go. But, they very seldom bask.
    DO NOT release captive turtles, as a previous poster suggested.
    Also, turtles DO NOT stay small if kept in a small tank. It amazes me that people actually think that- how freaking retarded.

    There are not many commonly available pet turtles that stay small.

    Some Mud and Musk Turtles stay smallish- but there are some that get pretty large, mostly from other countries.

    The Spotted Turtle is a GREAT pet that stays under 5″ usually, but this is not usually a very cheap option- they usually run about $100.

    Some Painted Turtles stay under 6″ as well.

    However, even a small turtle needs about 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length- so even a small 5″ turtle should be in a 75 gallon tank to give it 50 gallons of water and some basking space.
