Is grandfathers beard air plant poisonous to maquarie short neck turtles?

turtles
Liz M asked:

I have been given some granfathers beard air plant that I want to hang in my tank – not in the water but on the sides – is it poisonous to my turtles if it falls in and they eat it – or would it poison the water?

I do not believe so. Here are two links, one with a list of toxic plants for turles and one with safe plants.

    Hope it helps.

I very much doubt it as it grows in abundance around tropical lakes where there are numerous turtles, but in saying that a lot of plants are toxic if eaten in large quanties, so if your turtle is captive and doesn’t have the luxury of choice….who knows.

I’m not familiar with the plant name but it sounds as if it might be a bromeliad (pineapple family). So far as I know, none of the plants in the family are poisonous.
