I am assuming that you have a contract with the complex/board that explicitly states that you can&#039;t have pets and/or must have prior approval to have them. Tell them that you didn&#039;t realize that was the case, or that it didn&#039;t apply to aquariums, or whatever the case may be. But be apologetic, so that they will be more apt to be sympathetic rather than just angry at you for the violation.

Second, point out mitigations you can put in place. Can you put the tank on a stand, and then place the stand in a tub. This way, if a leak were to occur, the tub would contain the water, and the floor would not be damaged.

Third, state that turtles aren&#039;t loud or stinky, won&#039;t cause damage like a mammal would, and won&#039;t escape outside.

Fourth, can you go and bring your kids with you? Then they have to say no to their face, which is much harder than saying no in a letter to you.</description>
