rue-daba asked:
I have a 10 galon fish tank with two turtles. but my apartment complex that?
i live in doesnt allow pets of any kind. and is making me get rid of the tank. my daughter loves to watch and feed the fish. its her daily chore. well there is a board meeting tonight and i have to write a letter asking for permission to keep the fish. and advice on what i should say?

First, apologize for breaking the rule in the first place. I am assuming that you have a contract with the complex/board that explicitly states that you can’t have pets and/or must have prior approval to have them. Tell them that you didn’t realize that was the case, or that it didn’t apply to aquariums, or whatever the case may be. But be apologetic, so that they will be more apt to be sympathetic rather than just angry at you for the violation.
Second, point out mitigations you can put in place. Can you put the tank on a stand, and then place the stand in a tub. This way, if a leak were to occur, the tub would contain the water, and the floor would not be damaged.
Third, state that turtles aren’t loud or stinky, won’t cause damage like a mammal would, and won’t escape outside.
Fourth, can you go and bring your kids with you? Then they have to say no to their face, which is much harder than saying no in a letter to you.
