How to build a ramp leading to basking area for turtles?

turtles
asked:

We would like to use materials that are found in the house and make a suitable ramp to lead to the basking area for 3 baby RES turtles.
We don’t want to buy a dock, we just want to make the ramp..

I use a turtle dock-really they’re cheap. You can probably even get a free one off craigslist. But I really wouldn’t use any household items. My friend used to put all kinds of stuff in with her baby turtles (red ears and painteds) and they ALWAYS died. I eventually stopped catching them for her. They’re really sensitive to chemicals. If you want to risk it though, how about big flat rocks? or even cutting up a plastic bottle?

Do you consider a slab of wood a household item? (It is in our house.) Sanitize the slab in the oven, then wedge it in the tank. One end should be on the bottom and the other end in the air. That give you a hiding place for the turtle, a ramp, and a basking platform.
