How old do RES turtles have to be to mate?

I have 2 RES turtles. One is about 5 in and the other is about 2 in. We just put them in the same tank together and the bigger turtles keeps doing the mating dance to the little turtle. Will and when will the mate?

    PLEASE, remove the little turtle. the “mating dance” can also mean aggression. It’s much more likely they will fight than mate with such a size difference. the little ones going to be killed if you leave them together.

    They do not meet maturity until there fifth year. It does’nt matter what size they are but they have to be 5 years old.
