How can you tell if your turtles are mating?

My 2 turtles I think are girls but they do this fluttery thing with their front paws.I heard this means that they are mating.

    well the male mounts the female as best as he can and he starts humpin!

    is the male mounting the female? if not then no.

    That “fluttery thing” is also done to intimidate a competitor for space and food. It is not always foreplay to mating. You might need a larger tank for them.
