I have been thinking of purchasing a pet turtle but I am also wondering if they are a pet that requires a lot of work.

I’m not aware of a turtle on the pet trade market that doesn’t require a lot of work.

Don’t be taken in by those cute tiny turtle babies you see swimming around in tanks in certain pet stores, most of those get quite big and require a large tank.

But turtles aren’t my specialty, so maybe there is a pet turtle out there that isn’t a hand-full(though I doubt it).

If you want a turtle that does not require water changes and all the other stuff then you should check out box turtles, as they only need a dish with water in it that they can climb in an out of. I have an ornate box turtle that lives in a 20 gallon tank and aquatics that live in 55 gallon tank and I am always doing something with the aquatics tank. To me the box turtle is easy to maintain and it eats fruits and vegs like me and I also take it out to roam a couple hours a day. check out Austin’s Turtle Page for care sheets and infor.

You have to feed daily, twice per day at first. You have to clean the tank almost perpetually, and you have to keep the equipment in operating condition.
